The Contrary rode into camp backwards. Said goodbye when he meant hello. Walked straight into the storm while everyone else hunkered down.

Among the Plains nations that wasn’t foolishness. It was medicine. The Contrary rode into battle with his horse facing backwards, and the whole camp understood what it meant. He lived in reverse to remind the people that the crowd isn’t always right.

Being Contrary was never a costume. It was a calling. Question the easy answer. Go where the crowd isn’t. Hold your direction when you’re the only one facing it.

This teaching belongs to the Plains nations and is told differently from nation to nation. We share it with respect, as learners, not owners.

We are Diné, members of the Navajo Nation. Every design we make brings light to a different Native story. Some come from our own culture. Some come from nations whose teachings we are still learning. We study them, tell them, and put them on our backs so they travel.

When someone asks what the rider on your back means, you get to tell them about the one who rode in backwards. That’s the point. The story travels.

It’s cut oversized: big through the chest, dropped at the shoulders, long in the body. Order your usual size for the full oversized look, or size down one for a regular fit. Most reviewers say it runs roomy, but one 2XL buyer found it smaller than his other 2XLs. Lay a hoodie you like flat and compare it to the size chart above.

Every piece is made to order. The hoodie usually ships in 3–7 business days, with estimated delivery in 10–15 business days.

The sunfade is a real wash, not a printed effect. It hits every piece a little differently, so small variations from the photos are part of the wash.

Machine wash cold on gentle. No bleach. Tumble dry low. Iron low and avoid the print. No dry cleaning.
